Horseback Riding Lessons
The very first thing before taking a horse riding lesson is to know what you want to happen. You don’t have to know the “how” that will come from our guidance, but you need to know what I would like to experience with this horse. Such as… I would like to be a confidence horseback rider, knowing how to direct the horse in any situation so that we both stay safe. I want to have a true relationship with the horse so we both enjoy our time together. I think trail riding, or barrel racing or jumping etc. would be fun. Perfect, now you would be on a path to what you want.
So now you described a relationship of two, the horse and the human coming together. If you come together with understanding all goes well, if there is a lack of understanding on either part, there is a missing link. That is where we at DCappel Horsemanship come into the mix for your riding lessons to bridge any gap no matter how small or big so that, that partnership fulfills your desires.
Creating the Partnership:
Horse by itself can’t create it nor can a human by itself create it. Partnership is what creates the Trust- Respect – Understanding between the two that holds the artist value in horsemanship that will be a life long journey for every true horseman.
Through DCHorsemanship proven ways we will raise your awareness and understanding.
Remember, you don’t know what you don’t know but now that you have a desire, let’s fill in the gaps so you can take each step with understanding with enjoyment of the learning to take the next and the next step.
Reading a horse: First Step to a good horseman
Do you know how to read a horse? Can you see in the horse’s body exactly if he is with you or not? Are you with the horse? Can you recognize the difference? What do those things mean and why are they important? Can you tell the different expression of frustration verse one of fear? What does agreement look like between horse and handler? Can you get your horse to move his feet when, where and how you choose at your slightest signal? What does posture, and attitude have to do with riding a horse?
Nothing could be more fun that to be a respected and trusted leader by your horse. But since he has not read any books or watched any horse riding lessons videos you will need to be the one to bring understanding to this desired partnership. He is a horse and will just do what horses do, so learning to read the horse is a valuable tool here. We will assist you on raising your awareness to how this horse thinks that will equip you to do what when, from the time you catch the horse to when your horseback riding.
Essential Groundwork: Confidence Communication Connection technique:
Essential groundwork course that forms a foundation through that all mighty true understanding that will happen very quickly for both you and the horse. Essential Groundwork sets the stage for what you truly desire and that is for your horse to be attentive, connected and listening to you to do what when. These are 12 lessons taught on the ground and we refer to each one of them as one word in the English language and when you put the words all together you form a sentence and now communication is happening and flowing to another to another and now you have the dance! Having the new awareness for a willing agreeable horse you are now positioned to riding with clarity of what to do when. You now are equipped with the ability to communicate clearly with the horse and this produces an attitude of agreement which leads to efficient responding horse that are light and willing to please.
The essential Groundwork lessons will have taught you body control with your horse from the ground and that will transfer over to when you’re riding on their backs. These techniques will ensure your safety in your riding experience no matter where you’re at, doing what with your horse. You will use the same techniques everywhere you ride.
Note: The thing that makes horses unsafe for humans is the horse’ natural self-preserving instincts for survival and the human lack of understanding them. The human doesn’t know what to do so that leaves the horse in control and the handler/rider vulnerable.
DCappel horsemanship will raise your awareness so you are fully prepared to handle your horse anywhere, doing anything. With your new understanding and the horse’s trust and respect for you the horse will give you the authority for their well being that they can relax in your presence and enjoy becoming together where you can do anything possible.
We here at DCH are continual learners and we have several resources to assist you on your journey no matter where you are with your horse riding lessons, we will meet you there and support you to the next level of your horsemanship.
We appreciate the opportunity to work with you and yours. All ages welcome and everyone starts in the same place to ensure the happiness of both handler/rider and horse.
Come learn how to really enjoy your horse.
