The Clear Mental Picture (CMP) has become my favorite topic of discussion for one reason. It is in fact, the one place that real improvement can exist. Mental imagery can and should be viewed as the most effective tool to the accomplishment of anything. Everything that exist was once a thought in the mind of someone. Thoughts that are held onto and revisited turn into beliefs. With the assistance of a vivid imagination beliefs turn into clear mental images and those images then produce the actions that bring them into a visceral tangible existence.
Thoughts are much like fish in the ocean. They appear from out of nowhere and can disappear as quickly as they appeared. Unless the fish happens to take hold of a fisherman’s bait at which point they lose their ability to freely leave. When we take a thought captive and hold onto it and ponder on it for a minute or two it will be joined by another thought and then another of the same kind. Momentum has now begun and will continue to build until we shift our thoughts to a different subject. It is helpful to write these thoughts down too! Placing a thought on paper is like catching a fish on a line, it keeps it from getting away from you. The time you spend in thought will often lead you to answers to questions that you perhaps didn’t even know you had until you held a thought captive for a time. This is a process that is very effective in developing an image in your mind of what you want you and your horse to look like.
Let’s say you saw someone riding and it really made an impression on you. You liked it and the thought of being able to look like that yourself brought a pleasant feeling to you. What are you going to do about this thought?
You have some options here. You could do nothing, which will let the thought pass out of your mind and you will probably forget that you ever saw anything. Or you could keep a hold of it and mull it over for a bit and when you do this you will likely revisit the thought again and again and especially if you get the good feeling that you did when you first saw it , before you know it you can’t quit thinking about what you saw . This practiced thought then opens the door for the actions to take place to bring it to life! This action can come in all sorts of different ways, but one thing will always accompany it! This one thing is how that you feel when you are engaged with it both physically and mentally. If the birth of this clear mental picture brings you feelings of satisfaction, joy, happiness, peace, wellbeing, clarity or great accomplishment then you know that you are on the path that is right for you and not that of someone else. This is your journey to enjoy and when you get filled with the satisfaction of the experience everyone and everything around you benefit from it. There is an old saying that a rising tide raises all boats.
Another Benefit of this mental journey with the tool of thought and your imagination is that it never ends. I believe that you just never get it done but you can’t get it wrong. So, given that to ponder, doesn’t it inspire you to get started again using your mind to create your future? You might say how do you know I’m starting again? Because all little children use their imagination to get what they want! Life has a way of derailing us out of thinking that way. I believe that when you return too it you also return to the natural child like joy! This good feeling of your own doing will put some pep in your step and you might just find that it makes you come feeling more fully alive! After all, if you’re going to be on a journey through life anyway why not make yours a joy filled one? You have permission to dream again you will be glad you did and who knows how good it can get!!
