Mustang Training half way mark

July 22, 2017 By admin Leave a Comment

Summer is in full force now and with it comes it’s own set of obstacles to overcome. High heat, drought, and bugs, just to name a few. I find it best to be thankful for all of the opportunities and to deal with each one as they come. The fact is that adversity comes and goes; it is a law of nature that is at continuous play. Day follows night and so on. Have you ever seen a time when complaining about the weather made it change? Hum…me neither.

Focusing on problems and complaining about them accomplishes nothing, except to steal energy from us that we could be using to put towards the solutions to them! What we focus on will magnify. It is directly tied to attitude. A person with the habit of seeing the positive in all situations will be much happier than those that see more of the negative. The best news of all is that how we respond to situations is out of habitual thinking and old programming. “Why is that the best news?”, you might ask yourself. Because, if you want to, you can change your response to any thought by merely thinking before you respond, instead of reacting to them as you always have. We do have a choice to think and respond or to stay stuck in an old rut, which, by the way, a rut is merely a grave with the ends kicked out. When we change to a new and better way of thinking, those around us reap the benefits and in turn, are much more pleasant to be around. Come to think of it, there is absolutely no good reason to whine and complain about anything, now is there?

The mustangs are doing well. Brilliant Attitude has been going to fair parades and horse shows and is really enjoying all of the attention he is receiving. Cindy changed BA 2’s name to CC Serenity and I think he likes it better. There is a nice story in the making with him and Cindy as they develop in their relationship.

I believe that the time I spent with Brilliant Attitude taking him through my “Agility Course” has allowed him to gain confidence in training, which is making the journey with him much easier than some in the past. For that, I am extremely grateful! Brilliant Attitude is a very trusting horse that really tries his best to understand what I am asking of him. Several of my Agility Course students and I drove our horses in the Lincoln County Fair Parade. I had Brilliant Attitude with this group and he walked down Main Street as comfortable as an old show horse. Then on Wednesday, we went back for his debut as a show horse at the County Fair and once again, he was solid as a rock. This was only about the 4th time I had loped him and he picked up the correct lead both directions. He was very solid at the walk and trot as well! I’m looking forward to advancing him so that we can see what he is capable of at even higher levels.
